From secondary school onwards

Living starts at eighteen. Taking part starts earlier.

The step that most often goes wrong is not the move; it is the eighteenth birthday. Youth services stop, adult care begins, the school that provided structure falls away — and anyone who has never cooked a meal or sat a job interview has to learn everything at once. That is why Spectrum is open from around the age of fourteen. Not to live there, but to learn, to practise and to get to know people.

From ±14

Practising in the Lab

A job interview, a crowded supermarket, an unexpected visitor at the door. In the VR room you can do it a hundred times over — without an audience and without anything riding on it.

From ±14

A buddy and a group

Themed evenings, the workshop, the studio. People your own age you never have to explain yourself to when you need to step out for a while.

From ±16

Learning and working

Learning routes with the regional college, a work placement in the neighbourhood café or the workshop, and after that an internship with an employer on Voorne-Putten. With a job coach who stays.

From ±16

Staying over and trial living

A weekend or a week in the practice flat. Cooking for yourself, getting yourself up, planning your own day — with someone nearby and your own bed still at home.

From 18

A front door of your own

Anyone who is ready and wants it can have a studio. Not as a stranger moving in, but as someone who has known the building, the team and the neighbours for years.

Iemand met een VR-bril die een situatie oefent
The Spectrum Lab. A practice room with VR, where you can repeat a situation as often as you like.

Not only the young person

Parent groups, information evenings and somewhere to ask what comes after school. Many families start looking for that years before there is anything to choose.

Honest about the limit

Under eighteen you do not live here. That would be youth care with residence: a separate licence, a separate quality framework and a separate inspectorate. That is a different profession from the one we are setting up here, and we would rather do one thing well than two things halfway.

Taking part in the programme is possible — through the Youth Act in consultation with your municipality, or at your own expense. The youth programme fits within the budget: the Lab, the platform and the day activities already exist. So nothing changes in the figures, only in who walks through the door.

Spectrum will only happen if enough people say they want it

That is not a figure of speech: municipalities and funders literally ask us for numbers. Signing up commits you to nothing and there is no intake procedure.
